PNG Post 1973 (Jun) KEREMA (Possible First Day Use) (Error) (Registered)
Cover with "KEREMA/-5JE73/T.P. & N.G." (Gulf Province) and Registration label "KEREMA/R/NO. 02138" on 30c Murex and 7c Helicopter to Henley Beach S.A. with backstamps "KEREMA", "BOROKO", "MELBOURNE", "ADELAIDE" and "HENLEY BEACH". Postmarker is KM-3 as per the image shown Page 83 "The Postal History of Papua New Guinea 1945 - 1998 Volume 1 Part 1. by M.J. Garwood and R.A.D. Heward of the Papuan Philatelic Society. Base reads "T.P. & N.G." whereas KM-2 (In use 14 September 1971 to 30 June 1977) reads "PAPUA NEW GUINEA". According to Garwood and Heward, KM-3 was in use from 1 August 1973 to 30 June 1977. The date on this cover front and rear is "5 June 1973", that is, two months prior to "first use". A note in G & H says "RELIEF CDS R-5 used from 5 June 1973 to 31 July 1973." and "The Editors would appreciate confirmation that R-5 was actually used, as PPS Cover Service registered covers show KM-2 dated 5 June 1973". NB This Cover is KM-3.
