Australia 1971 (08 Aug) Space Cover stamped in blue "NAT. UNI. CANBERRA/- MOONSAMPLES -" and blue cachet "IMAGE HELICOPTER/SPACE CAPSULE ON SEA/TO/HONOUR/APOLLO/MISSION" and addressed to Glenelg S.A. with 6c Sturt`s Desert Rose stamp cancelled "AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CANBERRA A.C.T. AUST/-8AU71". David Scott and James Irwin spent 181⁄2 hours on the Moon`s surface on extravehicular activity (EVA), and collected 77 kilograms (170 lb) of surface material. Several types of volcanic glass occur in the Apollo 15 samples, the most common and famous of which is the green glass. This glass is very rich in the element magnesium, which causes the green color. Studies of the green glass indicate that it originated at about 400 kilometers below the Moon`s surface. APOLLO 15 Landed 7th August 1971 Pacific Ocean (8th August 1971 Australian time)
